GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - On Friday afternoon, the women's tennis team played their fourth straight home match and dropped their third straight to start the conference with a 6-1 loss to Ferris State at the Grand Rapids Racquet Club.
The Bulldogs improved to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in the GLIAC while the Panthers currently sit at 5-14 overall and 0-3 in the GLIAC.
Ferris State won the three doubles matches and went up a point. Agata Klak and Parker Nolan needed to go into a tiebreaker against
Willemien Coetzee and
Isabella Carofano for Davenport before winning 7-6 (7-3).
Charlotte Zhuwakini and
Louise Hosking teamed up at two doubles and dropped a 6-2 decision.
Sophie Jackson and
Kumiko Yamaguchi at three doubles for DU lost 6-3.
Coetzee earned the team's point at one singles. She was able to beat Sophie Daavettila 6-4, 6-4. Carofano had a battle at two singles against Brittany Lavenant. Carofano won 6-1 in the first set before Lavenant rallied to win 6-3, 6-3 in the final two sets. Yamaguchi at four singles pushed Patricia M. Gomez to three sets. She won the first set 6-3 before Gomez rallied 6-3, 6-1 in the next two sets.
