UNIV. CENTER, Mich. - It was an eye-popping type of day and game for the Davenport baseball team on Thursday. The Panthers visited Saginaw Valley State and set a new standard for runs scored since joining NCAA Division II in a 29-16 win over the Cardinals. The 29 runs are third most in school history behind 31 runs scored on two different occasions. The Panthers also tied the school record with seven home runs originally set on April 25, 2012 against Alma. The team had 23 hits which tied for fourth in a game and drew 14 walks which set a new single-game record.
Davenport scored in eight of their nine innings including 10 runs in the top of the fifth. They also scored four runs in the first, second, and seventh innings. The game took just over four hours to play as Davenport held a 29-7 lead before the Cardinals scored nine times in the bottom of the ninth.
On an individual basis,
Nolan Anspaugh started the game with four hits which meant he went nine straight plate appearances with a hit after going 5-for-5 in the second game on Monday at Parkside. Anspaugh had a pair of singles along with a double and home run in today's game going 4-for-5 with four runs and a career-high six RBI.
Gaetano Vallone finished 3-for-6 with two runs and drove in five runs. He has had two five-RBI games in his last three played.
Ben Mets went 3-for-6 with three runs and four RBI. Mets had the second multi-homer game of his career with the last one coming on April 3, 2021 also at Saginaw Valley State.
Carter Troncin had a 3-for-5 day at the plate with four runs and four RBI (both career highs). Troncin had a double and home run and also drew a walk. Anspaugh, Vallone,

Carson Eby, and Troncin accounted for the seven home runs.
Carson Fischer got the win (3-1) in two relief innings of
James Kohl. Fischer entered the game when the score was 10-6 and retired all six batters he faced with two strikeouts.
Alex Lord threw one scoreless inning in the fourth with a walk and strikeout.
Zach Haefer threw two scoreless innings and struck out one.
