SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Davenport women's tennis team concluded a two-day trip in the Upper Peninsula on Saturday with a 7-0 loss to Lake Superior State. Davenport dropped their second straight match after a three-match winning streak going into the weekend. The Lakers improved to 6-9 overall and 3-4 in the GLIAC and now DU is 8-17 overall and 1-6 in the conference. Next Saturday will be the final regular season match at home against Purdue Northwest.
The doubles matches all went to the Lakers as they earned a point. The best match was three doubles as
Kumiko Yamaguchi and
Isabella Carofano pushed Julia Fraile Raton and Claudia Sole to 7-5.
Nadege Koua at one singles had the upper hand against
Willemien Coetzee of DU by scores of 6-1, 6-4. Maddie Whip at two singles for LSSU beat Carofano in three sets (6-1, 4-6, 6-1). Milena Baigorria defeated
Vladislava Shumilova at three singles (6-4, 6-0). The other three matches never saw Davenport win more than two games in any set.
