GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Davenport trailed Northern Michigan, 6-5, heading to the second quarter of Senior Day on Friday at the DU Turf Field. Then in the second and third periods, the Panthers outscored the Wildcats 8-0 to go ahead by seven, 13-6, and their lead was never smaller than five after that before the final score of 15-10.
Next up, Davenport (12-5, 5-3 GLIAC) will be the two seed for the GLIAC Tournament and face third-seeded Concordia-St. Paul (8-9, 4-4 GLIAC) in the semifinals. That match will be played at top seed and host, Grand Valley State, a week from Friday on April 29 with the start time to be decided.
Against the Wildcats, six different Panthers found the back of the net including
Ayanna Turrubiates (6 goals) off the bench,
Anna Glynn (4),
Aaliyah Miller (2),
Maddy Haynes,
Avery Garant, and
Brenna Knoll (first game back from injury). Miller led the way in assists with three while Glynn and
Reilly Noble added two and one, respectively. Turrubiates also led all players in both shots with 12 and shots on goal with 10.
Theadora Krueger was on top of both the ground ball and caused turnover departments with four and three, respectively, while Glynn and Miller each notched five draw controls.
In goal,
Maisy Latus may have turned in the best performace of her career as she racked up a personal best 13 saves on 31 shots faced. Those 31 attempts represent the third-most attempts Latus saw in a home match this season.
In the team head-to-head, Davenport held the advantage in total shots (35-31), saves (13-6) and successful clears (22-15) while Northern Michigan was on top in shots on target (23-21), ground balls (14-13) and draw controls (17-12). Both squads took nine free-position shots and turned it over 15 times.
Prior to the opening draw,
Addie Bethune, Noble, Glynn,
Elizabeth Robinson, Knoll, and Miller were recognized on the field with family and friends. The team's seventh senior,
Makenna Pitchford couldn't be there for the ceremony due to an academic engagement.
