MIDLAND, Mich. - The Davenport men's tennis team advanced to the GLIAC Tournament semifinals on Friday with a 4-1 victory over Northwood. The fourth-seed Panthers picked up the win over the fifth-seed Timberwolves and will now play top-seed Wayne State on Saturday at the Greater Midland Tennis Center.
The Panthers got the all-important first point with two wins in doubles.
Juan-Louis van Antwerpen and
Jonathan Bulmer got their 16th win in a dual match this season with a 6-4 win over Mathis Violet and Leon Grundstrom.
Maxim Drinchich and
Daniil Khitrou teamed up at three doubles for their sixth win in a dual match this season with a 6-3 win over Alex Lowell and Tony Henrio.
Davenport got the needed three singles wins to clinch the match. van Antwerpen won 6-0, 4-6, 6-0 at two singles over Max Wild. Bulmer at three singles won 6-2, 6-1 over David Sedlar. Drinchich at six singles picked up a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Maharsh Patel. Henrio won his match at five singles to earn the one point for Northwood.
