INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The NCAA Division II Baseball Committee has selected the 56 teams that will participate in the 2022 NCAA Division II Baseball Championship. The championship provides for eight regional sites hosting three teams and eight regional sites hosting four teams, for a total of 16 regional sites. All regionals are double-elimination tournaments and will be played May 19-22. Regional winners will advance to the best-of-three super-regional competition May 27-28. Super Regional winners will advance to the double-elimination championship finals June 4-11 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.

Davenport has been chosen as the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Region and will host a three-team regional at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex in Caledonia, Mich. for the first time. The Panthers are the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) regular season and tournament champions for the second straight season and enter the regional round with an overall record of 35-21. DU rallied in emphatic fashion in the GLIAC Tournament by winning five straight games after dropping the opening game against Purdue Northwest on Thursday. The team won on Friday against Saginaw Valley State (12-8), twice on Saturday against Northwood (8-5) and Wayne State (8-5), and finally beat Purdue Northwest twice on Sunday (6-4 and 2-1).

The Panthers await the loser of the first game on Thursday at noon which features No. 4 seed Quincy (33-22) and No. 5 seed Northwood (30-21-1). DU will play at 4:00 PM on Thursday and are familiar with both teams. Davenport beat Quincy in three-of-four games earlier this season on the road on Mar. 19-20. After dropping game one, 4-2, the Panthers concluded the series with wins by scores of 10-8, 11-7, and 19-8. The two teams played a year ago in the regionals at Lindenwood on May 29 in an epic game won by the Panthers, 22-13.

Davenport and Northwood battled five times already this season with the teams splitting four games in Caledonia on Mar. 25 and 28. NU won 6-0 in the first game and it marked the only time this season that DU has been shutout. The Panthers won 17-16 in game two of the doubleheader and followed with a 3-1 win in game one of a doubleheader on Mar. 28. The Timberwolves took game two 3-1. DU as mentioned before beat the Timberwolves 8-5 in the GLIAC Tournament to lead the season series 3-2. Northwood holds a slim 12-11 edge in the all-time series between the conference rivals.
