DU's season concludes with 9-7 loss to Quincy in NCAA Midwest Regional

The Panthers left 16 runners on base and struck out 15 times (both season highs)

CALEDONIA, Mich. - Both Davenport and Quincy ended today's Midwest Regional #1 final with identical 36-23 records, but the Hawks found a way to advance to the Super Regional round with a 9-7 win over the top-seeded Panthers. The fourth-seeded Hawks had the clutch plays and got timely pitching when they needed it the most. Davenport left 16 runners on base and struck out 15 times which were both season highs. The Panthers left the bases loaded in the fourth and sixth innings and left two runners on base in each of the last three innings. All that being said, Davenport still had many chances to pull out a win but saw their season come to a close after hosting a NCAA regional round for the first time in program history.

Quincy led 3-0 after two innings but the Panthers tied it up at 3 in the third inning. Nolan Anspaugh tripled to center with one out and Gaetano Vallone singled him home for the team's first run. Noah Marcoux singled through the right side and Vallone advanced to third. Both moved up one spot as Vallone scored on a wild pitch for the second run. Carson Eby later delivered a two-out RBI single up the middle for a 3-3 ballgame.

Quincy responded with three runs of their own in the top of the fourth. Gino D'Alessio and Logan Logsdon each had a RBI single during the inning. Davenport loaded the bases in the fourth as Caleb Anspaugh tripled to right center with two outs and then Nolan Anspaugh and Vallone each walked. Marcoux flied out to center to end the inning.

The Panthers cut the deficit to 6-5 in the bottom of the fifth as Carter Troncin hit an opposite field two-run homer just over the glove of Zach Parks at the wall in right field. Joe Roscetti homered for the Hawks to leadoff the sixth inning for a 7-5 lead. The Panthers again climbed within a run in the bottom of the sixth as Eby was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Sam Stephens then buckled down for the Hawks and got Troncin and Christian Petre to strike out swinging to strand three runners.

Davenport tied the game at 7 in the bottom of the seventh. Caleb Anspaugh singled to right and stole second. His brother Nolan tripled for the second time of the game and then the inning was halted as Marcoux struck out and Ben Mets grounded out to Stephens to end the inning. The Panthers had two runners on first and second in the eighth inning against Alex Pribyl after he walked Eby and Logan Hylek. He got Caleb Anspaugh to strikeout looking to keep it tied at 7.

Quincy scored twice in the ninth inning as southpaw Spencer Vainavicz faced four left-handed hitters who got hits in the inning. Dayson Croes led off with a single to center and scored two batters later on a RBI double to center by Logsdon. With two outs, Zach Parks had an infield single to second and then Sebastian Martinez hit a bloop RBI single to left for a 9-7 lead. Pribyl allowed a single to Nolan Anspaugh and a walk to Vallone in the bottom of the ninth, but closed it out on three straight strikeouts against Marcoux, Mets, and Eby.

Pribyl (4-1) tossed the final two innings for the win and allowed one hit with three walks and five strikeouts. Tyler Carpenter got the start for Quincy and lasted four innings allowing four runs and six hits. Vainavicz (6-2) took the loss in 1.2 innings of work.
