Davenport Shuts Out Parkside 3-0 for Second Win in a Row

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Fueled by the first goal of the season from Haley Diekevers and the first two of Aida Holihan's career, Davenport won back-to-back home matches for the first time since 2018 on Sunday. The Panthers put away Parkside 3-0 to improve to 3-3-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the GLIAC. Next up, DU will host Michigan Tech on Friday with the opening kickoff slated for 4 p.m. at The Farm.

Starting with Diekevers giving the home team a 1-0 lead, it came on a penalty kick attempt in the 29th minute, the first of her career. The score came after Davenport's Citlali Luna was fouled hard in the box to the left of the goal. After a team-leading eight goals as a freshman last season, Diekevers is in the scoring column in her second season with the program.

Fast forward to the 75th minute and the first of Holihan's two second-half scores. Following a beautiful right-to-left cross from Ellie Fisher, Holihan made first touch with her head and deposited the ball just inside the left post. Just over four minutes later, Holihan scored in nearly identical fashion, this time receiving a well-placed corner kick from Joy VanDam. Assist wise, it was the second of Fisher's career and first for VanDam.

In goal, Gabriana Bennecke turned in one of the finer efforts of her career facing 13 shots and saving three of them from reaching the back of the net.

The Panthers will look to make it three-straight home wins on Friday, something the program hasn't done since 2016. They'll also look for a third GLIAC win in a row, something they've done just once since joining the league prior to the 2017 campaign.
