Box Score MIDLAND, Mich. - The men's soccer team seemed to be in a prime position to notch their second win of the season on Friday at Northwood. Luke Kalavitz was issued a red card for a dangerous tackle in the 63rd minute with the match tied at 1-1. Being a man down seemed to light a fuse for the Timberwolves as they recorded more shots on goal than the Panthers in the final 27 minutes. Northwood got an odd-man rush with one minute remaining and a cross from right wing by Owen Turner was headed in by JeRonn Body from around nine yards out into the top right corner for the game winner.
The Panthers took early momentum with a goal in the 10th minute.
Tyler Welch scored his first goal of the season with
George Deveau on the assist. There was a throw-in into the box and Deveau did a back heel near the six-yard box to Welch who finished from around nine yards on a chip shot into the top right corner.
Gjon Melakuqi tied the game up in the 41st minute for Northwood. Kalavitz took advantage of a defensive turnover by DU and played a through ball to Turner who scored low under
Shane Marinkovich from left wing at about 14 yards out.
For the match, Davenport held a 15-14 edge in total shots including 8-4 in shots on goal. DU (1-2) will now stay in Midland and play Tiffin on Sunday at 11:00 AM at Hantz Stadium.
