TIFFIN, Ohio - The Davenport University women's soccer team picked up its first non-conference win since 2019 on Friday thanks to a 2-1 road victory against Tiffin. The Panthers defeated the Dragons for the first time in program history (1-2) after goals from
Kathryn Hoeger in the 59th minute and
Francesca MacAnaspie (pictured) in the 83rd.
All three of the match's goals were scored in the second half, Tiffin out-shot Davenport by two, 18-16, and the shots on goal category was even at 7-7. With the win, the Panthers improved to 1-1-1 and will host No. 6 Central Missouri on Sunday (12 p.m.) for the 2022 home opener and final non-conference match of the regular season.
The visitors scored both of their goals before the home team could get on the board. Four different Panthers registered multiple shot attempts including
Ellie Fisher (4 shots, 3 shots on goal),
Kandis Orns (3 shots, 1 shot on goal), MacAnaspie (2 shots, 1 shot on goal), and
Citlali Luna (2 shots). DU's two other shots on target came from Hoeger and
Haley Diekevers.
In goal,
Gabriana Bennecke made six saves on 18 shots faced.
