ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The men's soccer team reached a milestone on Friday night with the 200th win in program history in convincing fashion. DU beat St. Cloud State 4-0 on the road at Husky Stadium for their second win of the season and first in the conference.
Davenport scored three times in the first half and never looked back.
Justice Sikkema scored in the fifth minute for his first of the season into the top right corner with no assist on the play.
Tyler Welch made it 2-0 in the 20th minute also unassisted with a shot to the lower left corner of the net for his second goal in 2022.
Matt Whelan increased the lead to 3-0 in the 23rd minute as he raced down the middle of the field and
Eoin Broughan from the left wing served a great ball to a streaking Whelan who scored on a one-touch half volley into the top left corner from around seven yards. Whelan increased his season goal total to five in the 87th minute as he was tripped up in the box and awarded a penalty kick. He converted as the goalkeeper dove to his left and Whelan calmly buried it in the lower left corner for the 4-0 final margin.
Davenport fired 15 shots total including nine on net. The Huskies responded with seven shots but none of them found the frame. The Panthers will conclude their weekend trip on Sunday at Upper Iowa for a 1:00 PM (ET) kickoff in Fayette, Iowa.
