Panthers take down Parkside in GLIAC action

KENOSHA, Wis. - Davenport Men's Basketball shot lights out going 53.8 percent from the field in their 72-58 win over Parkside. The Panthers improve to 5-10 overall and 1-4 in the GLIAC while the Rangers fall to 11-4 and 5-1 in GLIAC.

The Panthers handed the Rangers their first conference loss of the season and got their first of their own by starting strong with an early jumper from Jordan Sterling which led him to six early points within the first six minutes. With eight minutes left in the first half, DU went on a 10-0 run with the help of a three by Marcedus Leech Jr. and Sterling to put the Panthers up 24-19. The strong shooting from the Panthers helped them go into halftime with a 12-point lead (42-30). At the half, Leech Jr. led all scorers with 16 followed by Sterling with 14. Jaden Terrell grabbed six rebounds and James Felton had five. In the first half, DU shot 57.7 percent from the field where the Rangers shot 33.3 percent.

The Panthers stayed strong heading into the second half as Terrell scored seven points within the first two minutes to put DU up 49-33. With 7:46 to go Leech Jr. hit a triple to give him 27 points which was a career-high.

Leech Jr. finished with a career-high 29 points and scored 55 points over the week after 26 at Purdue Northwest on Thursday. Sterling followed him with 18, and Jaden Terrell with 11. Felton and Terrell grabbed eight rebounds each while Sterling grabbed seven. DU grabbed 36 total rebounds. Overall, Davenport shot 53.8 percent from the field, 50 percent from the three point line, and 85.7 percent from the free throw line.

Next up, DU will return home and take on Saginaw Valley State on Thursday, January 12 at 7:30 pm in the Student Center.
