Strong first half by Panthers overcame by Parkside

Josh Cook tallies his first goal of the season

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University men's soccer team hosted No. 1 GLIAC Wisconsin-Parkside for their second-straight match at home, ending in a 2-1 loss for DU.

Missing their typical starting goalkeeper Bobby Curran due to a suspension after receiving a red card two days previous, the Panthers' defense stood up to the challenge as Tommy Farrell got the start in the goal box for the second time this season for his fourth appearance.

DU would strike first after a pinpoint cross from Faheem Patel to Josh Cook, Cook sending his first shot attempt of the year into the back of the net and putting DU ahead 1-0 just inside the 13th minute mark. Although the Panthers couldn't get another shot on target, the defensive line prevented the Rangers from leveling the match with their five shot-on-goal attempts which were all saved by Farrell - ending the half with DU ahead.

Ten minutes into the second half, Parkside capitalized on a chaotic possession that resulted in Christopher Estrada knotting up the match, 1-1, off an assist from Alejandro Martinez. Almost 30 minutes of action ensued with neither side being able to take the lead until a sloppy pass by the Panthers deep in their territory resulted in Noah Schultz assisting Paco Piscaglia for the Rangers' second goal, ending the game in a 2-1 loss for DU.

The Panthers now sit at 2-4-3 on the year, their GLIAC record falling to 1-3-1.
