Panthers snap losing streak in draw against Ferris

Olsson leads Panthers with first career goal

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - Davenport University women's soccer tied the Ferris State Bulldogs 1-1 in their first of two road matches this week.

The tightly contested matchup was more or less even throughout the full 90 minutes, with Ferris State outshooting the Panthers 4-3 with a shot-on-goal mark. DU's typical starting goalkeeper Gabriana Bennecke missed her first match of the season, marking second-year Panther Bailey Gauthier's first appearance and start for DU this year. Gauthier stood tall to the challenge with three saves tallied and kept the Panthers undefeated against the Bulldogs this season (0-0-2).

Izabelle Olsson was the second Panther to mark a career accolade, as a goal by Ferris State just two minutes into the start of the second half (47') opened the boxscore, 1-0. Roughly 13 minutes later, Olsson leveled the match (61') off a free kick attempt several yards outside of the box, marking her first career and season goal. A six-to-one shot attempt ratio in favor of the Bulldogs would ensue, but neither team was able to take advantage to come out with a victory.

The draw marks the fourth overall for the Panthers (4-5-4, 1-5-4 GLIAC) as they prepare to face Saginaw Valley State. DU's lone conference victory came against the Cardinals earlier this season (1-0) with hopes to win the season series overall.
