Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Bosworth has career day as Panthers overwhelm SVSU

Gauthier records first career shutout

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Led by freshman Olivia Bosworth's two goals, the Davenport University women's soccer team dominated Saginaw Valley State University on the road in a 4-0 shutout to get back on the winning side.

The impressive match started off with a well-orchestrated free kick attempt as Haley Diekevers sent a ground ball into the back right of the net off an assist from Gabby Scholten just under six minutes into the match.

"We started the game very slow and were very fortunate to go 1-0 up early," said head coach Joe White. "However, I feel we were due a bit of luck. A great free kick routine from the training ground, credit to (assistant coach) Jake Van Schie, put us ahead. We defended our box very well in the first half and managed to get a second goal."

Bosworth's first collegiate goal came inside the 39-minute mark, as another bottom-right score was assisted by Madison Fant and Bianka Batagelj, 2-0 to end the first half.

The Panthers continued to capitalize on the momentum they built in in the first 45 minutes, as Bosworth marked another goal off a double assist from Alyssa Melquist and Diekevers just three minutes into the second half. DU didn't let up on the attack as a corner kick attempt from Izabelle Olsson found Arianna Diemer to seal the match 4-0 overall.

"The second half we completely dominated. We speak a lot about winning the battle and the fight and we did just that in the second half," White said. "We scored two great goals. This weekend we played a lot of players, and some that hadn't played many minutes this season stepped up and gave us something extra. Special mention to Olivia Bosworth who was outstanding and got two great goals… Great time of the year to get a big win."

Bailey Gauthier was another notable Panther that appeared started in her third-ever match for DU, preventing the Cardinals from scoring on their five shots on target.

Securing the season series against SVSU (2-0), the Panthers tallied their second conference win this season (5-5-4, 2-5-4 GLIAC) and moved up to No. 6 in the GLIAC standings. DU is back home next week for two of their three final regular season matches of the year.
