GLIAC Tournament Preview: Panthers facing NMU at home

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A pair of matches against the top two GLIAC opponents clinched the third seed in the 2023 GLIAC Tournament for the Davenport University men's soccer team, allowing them to host the quarterfinals on their home pitch.

The Panthers needed to defeat Wisconsin-Parkside and Purdue Northwest this past weekend and did exactly, winning 3-2 and 2-1, respectively, to level both season series at 1-1 apiece. Vitalis Takawira Jr. was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for marking one goal and two assists (four points) between the matches.

DU's season record improved to 5-4-5 overall (4-3-3 GLIAC) to create a quarterfinal matchup against Northern Michigan University at the DU Turf Field. The Panthers will look to get the best of the Wildcats this time, as the regular season series finished 1-0-1 in favor of NMU.

Comparing the regular season stats between the teams, the Panthers finished third in goals scored (19) and NMU tallying 10 overall. Defensively, DU held a goals-against-average of 1.43 (No. 4 GLIAC) while the Wildcats had a second-best 1.27 mark.
