Panthers End Regular Season with 3-2 Victory Over Warriors

DETROIT, Mich. -  Lindsay Taylor racked up 16 kills and 11 digs to lead the Davenport University women's volleyball team to a 3-2 victory over Wayne State on Saturday afternoon. 

The Panthers started the match on a 5-1 rally, taking the early advantage. However, the Warriors came back to take the first set 25-18.

Already holding a three point advantage (8-5) in set two, DU expanded on its early lead with a 5-0 rally and taking a 12-5 lead over WSU. During the five-point rally, Sydney Swan had two of the five points with a pair of kills. Moments later, Taylor recorded three kills to help fuel a 6-1 run and double-digit lead. Davenport ended the set on a 5-1 rally, which featured two kills by Emmy Webb, taking the set 25-14 and tying the match.

Wayne State answered, taking a 2-1 lead in the match following a 25-17 victory in set three.

 A pair of service errors from the Warriors helped ignite a 6-1 Panther run as they took a 6-3 advantage in the fourth set. With the score knotted at 19 apiece, DU went on a quick 3-0 rally, spurred and capped by kills from Taylor. Davenport sealed the set off an attack error by Wayne State, as the Panthers took the set 25-23, forcing a fifth and final set.

Davenport put together a critical five-point rally to garner a 8-4 lead, which was capped by a pair of kills from Taylor off assists from Lexie Beeke. Webb delivered the final blow, a service ace which gave the Panthers a 15-12 victory to take down the Warriors.

Swan tallied 11 kills on 35 attempts with three digs in the victory for DU. Webb added seven kills, four digs and three service aces, while Morgan Tydings chipped in with four kills, swinging at a .500 clip. Nicole Odeen registered a team-high 23 assists, while Beeke had 17 assists for the Panthers.

Defensively, Stephanie Kalinowski finished the match with a team-high 22 digs.
