GLIAC Tournament Preview: Panthers No. 12 in Super Region 3 ahead of semifinals

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Following a commanding quarterfinals shutout, the Davenport University men's soccer team is headed to the next round of the 2023 GLIAC Tournament to face Purdue University Northwest on the road. With the win, the Panthers are No. 12 in the NCAA DII Super Region 3, and No. 10 in the NCAA DII Midwest Region with a 6-4-5 record (4-3-3 GLIAC).

DU's strong performances in their final five matches of the regular season clinched the No. 3 seed for the Panthers to host No. 6 GLIAC Northern Michigan University in the quarterfinal round of the tournament. The first-round match finished 3-0 led by two goals from Andrew Dykstra, the remaining goal scored by Josh Cook. The shutout was the second recorded by keeper Bobby Curran in a Panther uniform.

Semifinals Matchup
No. 2 GLIAC Purdue Northwest is up next for the Panthers as DU looks to capitalize on its promising away record (3-1-3) as well as continuing the three-match winning streak.

The Panthers knotted the season series at 1-1 in their last matchup against the Pride in a 2-1 victory in Hammond, marking their final regular season match of the year and extending their October record to 3-1-2 ahead of the postseason tournament.

PNW will host their first-ever GLIAC semifinal match in program history, this time around against DU, after receiving a quarterfinal bye for clinching the second seed in the conference. The Pride's season record stands at 8-3-4 overall (5-3-2 GLIAC) and are ranked No. 8 in the Midwest Region, No. 10 in the Super Region 3 leaderboards.
