GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The women's tennis team in a Division II matchup at MVP SportsPlex on a mellow mid-winter afternoon triumphed over Walsh 4-1. The Panthers looked to bounce back from a tough loss last weekend.
The Panthers fought hard to earn the doubles point.
Amy Bloch and
Willemien Coetzee formed a confident team with a 6-4 win at one doubles over Carla Padberg and Alexa Gamborino. At two doubles,
Skye Vandeleur and
Hermon Mikael bonded over a win and clinched the doubles point 7-6(5) over Shantala Uzcategui and Yasmina Mayer. In three doubles,
Louise Hosking and
Isabella Carofano dropped a tight contest 7-6(5) after leading 5-1.
Bloch at one singles gutted out a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 win over Risako Umekuni. At the two singles spot, Vandeleur lost 6-3, 6-4 to Carla Padberg. Coetzee, at three singles, earned a lopsided win over Uzcategui 6-0, 6-3, 6-4. For four singles, Mikael's match was deemed unfinished right after she fought to win the second set 5-7, 7-5. Carofano earned a promising 6-3, 6-2 victory over Mayer. Hosking at six singles was settled as unfinished right as she was a game away from the second set, 3-6, 5-4.
