GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The women's tennis team kept Lawrence Tech winless in six matches this season with a 5-2 victory inside the Grand Rapids Racquet Club on Thursday afternoon. Davenport improved to 5-3 all-time against the Blue Devils and snapped a three-match losing streak against the former WHAC combatant.
The Panthers improved to 5-2 this season and won for the second straight match. The doubles portion went all three matches to the Panthers and they only dropped four games in the process.
Hermon Mikael and
Skye Vandeleur blanked Jacqueline Alcocer and Taylor Mattingly 6-0 at two doubles. The other matches were both 6-2.
Amy Bloch at one singles improved to 7-3 this season in singles play with a 6-2 win in the first set and led 3-0 in the second set before Olga Mejina had to retire. Mikael continued the theme of no games allowed with a 6-0, 6-0 breeze at three singles against Rafaela Tedesco.
Isabella Carofano bested Alcocer 6-1, 6-2 at four singles and is now 6-3 in singles this season.
Louise Hosking at five singles had no troubles with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Mattingly.
