DETROIT, Mich. - The women's basketball team struggled with their shooting on Thursday night in a 64-52 loss at Wayne State in GLIAC action. The Panthers dropped their eighth straight game and are currently 7-18 overall and 1-14 in the GLIAC with three more games left in the season. Despite shooting just 25 percent in the first quarter, DU led 11-10 as the Warriors were held to 18.8 percent going 3-of-16. Three of DU's four field goals came from behind the arc as they went 3-of-6.

The Warriors shot 38.9 percent in the second quarter while the Panthers shot 31.3 percent. Wayne State built a 37-25 lead in the third quarter in the first 3:45 before the media timeout. Rebecca Fugate had seven points for the Warriors to ignite the run. The lead hovered in double digits through the end of the quarter as WSU went into the final quarter with a 40-30 advantage. DU did a much better job of taking care of the ball in the third quarter with just one turnover.
Davenport started to make things interesting midway through the fourth quarter and trailed 48-43 after a
Scout Nelson long-range make. The Wayne State lead was single digits but Davenport could not get closer than five points which occured again with 47 seconds left at 57-52. WSU made eight free throws in a row from that point to stretch the lead back to double figures for the final score of 64-52.
Nelson led DU with 14 points going 5-of-9 from the floor but had an uncharacteristic eight of the team's 17 turnovers in the game. She also blocked four shots to tie a career-high set back on Nov. 19, 2022 against Tiffin. Her 14 rebounds was also one shy of her season-high of 15 against GVSU on Dec. 7.
