GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Jaden Terrell poured in a career-high 16 points as the Davenport University men's basketball team fell to Ferris State 90-75 Thursday evening at the DU Student Center. The redshirt freshman's previous career-best was 11 points in a 72-58 win against Parkside on Jan. 7, 2023.
Marcedus Leech Jr. finished with 18 points, three rebounds, and a steal for the Panthers (7-20, 3-14 GLIAC). Jordan Sterling registered 14 points, four assists, and a steal, while James Felton chipped in with 11 points, six rebounds, and three blocks for DU.
Terrell helped get the Panthers out to an early 8-4 advantage, hitting a shot from deep 4:15 into the first half of action. The redshirt freshman hit a mid-range jumper with 7:25 remaining in the half to cut the Bulldogs (22-6, 13-4 GLIAC) lead to 23-20. However, FSU was able to establish momentum, going on an 8-0 eclipsing 1:17.
With the first half coming to a close, Sterling found an open Terrell on the right wing as the guard drained the triple as time expired to trim the deficit to 46-33.
Leech Jr. buried a triple 4:21 into the second half off an assist from Terrell, which spurred a 9-3 DU run, cutting the deficit to 11 with 13:47 remaining in the contest. The Bulldogs put the game out of reach scoring 10 consecutive points to gain a 23-point edge over the Panthers with eight minutes to play.
Solomon Oraegbu finished with 32 points, three rebounds, and a steal for FSU. Ben Davidson added 17 points, knocking down four triples, while Mykel Bingham chipped in with eight points, seven rebounds, a steal, and a block for the Bulldogs.
The Panthers will conclude the 2022-23 regular season with Senior Day on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Lake Superior State at the DU Student Center.
