ORLANDO, Fla. - The Davenport men's tennis team kept up their spring break trip at the USTA National Campus on a mid-80-degree Tuesday. The Panthers were in two contests today against NCAA DIII Adrian College and NCAA DII Florida Southern.
The Panthers swept doubles in stunning fashion against the Bulldogs.
Bernard Anderson and
Max Dion formed a team at the two-doubles position earning an 8-1 win over Whitman Hopper and Luke Holowinski. For one doubles,
Jackson Graham and Frank Piana III were paired up as they earned a comfortable 8-3 win over Brandon Falk and Ryan Cuddy.
Reid Reimink and
Vance Muenzer concluded the doubles pairings at the three position as they claimed an 8-6 victory over Joey Quigley and Zachary Perry.
Jackson at two singles gave the Panthers their fourth point with a convincing win over Cuddy (6-0, 6-1). Reimink at the six singles position earned an impressive 6-3, 6-2 victory over Quigley. Piana at the one singles spot lost in a match tiebreaker (6-2, 3-6, 6-10) to Falk. Dion in at four singles took a tough 7-5, 6-3 loss to Sean Ruhf. Anderson dropped his match at three singles, after winning the first set comfortably 6-4, he lost the next two at 3-6, 6-10 to Holowinski. Muenzer at five singles was dismissed in a thrilling match tiebreak (6-3, 4-6, 8-10). The 5-4 win was played by older rules which meant each doubles match got a point as opposed to the new format that just one point is awarded for the team that wins two of the three doubles matches.
The Panthers were in a fight for the doubles point against the Mocs.
Carlos Henriquez and
Simone Pacciolla at two doubles dropped their match, 6-2, to Mario Garoz and Ryan Rajakar. For one doubles,
Jan Stolin and
Joel Mast created a strong unit, but dropped their match 6-4 to Chris Fox Kow and Matteo Feggi.
Daniil Khitrou and
Subash Paramasivam teamed up at three doubles in a comeback victory as they trailed 5-2 before winning five straight games to pull out the 7-5 victory.
For two singles, Stolin continued his consistency as the 6-1, 6-3 win was pulled off. Mast at the three singles position had trouble in the 6-1, 6-2 defeat to Garoz. At one singles, Paramasivam had a difficult time against his opponent causing the 6-3, 6-2 bow out. Henriquez played six singles, losing 6-0, 6-2 to Elliot Altman. Brenes competed at five singles to earn five games in the 6-4, 6-1 loss. Khitrou showed tremendous courage after losing the first set and being down a break in the second to eventually win the second to force a match tiebreaker. Nevertheless, Khitrou lost (5-7, 6-4, 7-10) but the great effort did not go unnoticed by the team.
