Panthers win the West Michigan Showdown over Aquinas 6-1

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The women's tennis team in a small-college matchup at the Grand Rapids Racquet and Fitness Club, on a calm mid-winter afternoon, celebrated a rousing 6-1 win over Aquinas 6-1. The first dual match of the Panthers' spring season proved to be an easy win over the Saints.

To begin the Panthers had a bit of help from the Saints' as they only had five players on the active roster. With that help, the Panthers completed the doubles sweep. Amy Bloch and Willemien Coetzee established a strong team with a 6-1 win at one doubles over Sofia Gomez and Joska Volder. At two doubles, it was Skye Vandeleur and Hermon Mikael who teamed up and clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Mimi Pacheco and Carlota Arzabe. Third doubles, Louise Hosking and Isabella Carofano picked up the default win.

Bloch at one singles earned a 6-1, 6-2 win over Volder. At the two singles spot, Vandeleur went the distance losing 6-2, 4-6, 7-10. Coetzee, playing three singles earned a routine win over Arzabe 6-3, 6-2. For four singles, Mikael wins in stunning fashion only dropping two games 6-1, 6-1 over Pacheco. Carofano capped the day at five singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Alyssa Jack. Hosking was gifted the default win at six singles.
