Gustafson Remains Hot in Loss to Wildcats

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University women's basketball team was defeated 73-55 by Northern Michigan Thursday evening at the DU Student Center. 

Lillee Gustafson led the way for the Panthers (7-16 1-12 GLIAC), scoring 21 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. The performance marks her 11th double-double on the season and 4th 20-point double-double.

Mary Liedel finished with 17 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals while knocking down three shots from behind the arc for DU. Ellie Toney added nine points, five rebounds, and four assists in the loss.

The Panthers were able to jump out to an early 10-0 lead over the Wildcats (13-10, 8-6 GLIAC) with 5:06 remaining in the first quarter. NMU pulled within three to set the score at 12-9 before DU scored the final four points of the quarter to give themseleves a seven-point cushion heading into the second quarter.


Northern Michigan took its first lead of the game with 1:30 remaining in the first half. The Wildcats went into the half with a slim 32-29. 

Coming out of the break, Alexa Kolnitys buried a three from the left corner off an assist from Scout Nelson to tie the game at 32 apiece. The Wildcats responded with a layup on the ensuing possession and were able to control the remainder of the game.

Looking ahead, the Panthers will host No. 24 Michigan Tech on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the DU Student Center to conclude the five-game homestand.
