Panthers edged by Cavaliers, Malpass Scores Season-High Four Goals

NORTH CANTON, Ohio. - Blakely Malpass scored a season-high four goals on six shots as the Davenport women's lacrosse team fell 8-7 to Walsh on Friday evening at Larry Staudt Field

Ayanna Turrubiates, Avery Garant, and Mika Kulynych all found the back of the net once for the Panthers (0-5, 0-0 GLIAC). Malpass and Turrubiates have each scored in every game they have played this season.

The game started in a low-scoring fashion, as the Cavaliers (3-2, 0-0 G-MAC) held a 2-0 at the end of the first period, soon after expanding their lead to three 59 seconds into the second period. However, Malpass had a dominating stretch of play, recording a hat-trick in the second period alone, scoring three goals in a span of 5:53 to trim the Walsh lead to 4-3.

Malpass scored the second half's first goal off a free position shot to tie the game at five apiece. The Cavaliers responded with their own free-position goal to regain a slim one-point lead going into the final period of play.

Trailing by two, Turrubiates and Garant each registered a goal within  48 seconds for DU to tie the game 7-7 with 10 minutes of action remaining. However, it would not be enough, as Walsh scored the final goal of the contest with just under nine minutes remaining to seal the victory.

The Panthers will return to action Sunday at 2 p.m. with a matchup against Tiffin at Frost-Kalnow Stadium in Tiffin, Ohio.
