Panthers Drop Home Opener to No. 1 Indianapolis

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport women's lacrosse team fell 16-7 in its home opener to No. 1 Indianapolis Friday evening at the DU Turf Field

Blakely Malpass led the Panthers (1-6, 0-0 GLIAC), scoring four goals for the third consecutive game. Avery Garant added two goals, while Theadora Krueger found the back of the net for the first time this season. Maisy Latus played all 60 minutes in net, registering 11 saves in the loss for Davenport.

The Greyhounds (8-0, 0-0 GLVC)  jumped ahead early to a 6-0 advantage midway through the second period. DU responded, scoring two goals in the final 3:19 to trim the deficit to five heading into the break.

After surrendering the first two goals of the second half, Malpass registered her second goal of the contest with 3:33 remaining. One minute later, Malpass found Garant who scored her second goal of the night down the stretch of the third period.

Malpass scored two more goals in the final period of play, but it wasn't enough as the nation's top team held off DU.

The Panthers will be back in action at the DU Turf Field in Grand Rapids, Mich. on Sunday at noon against Maryville.
