Panthers Can't Contain Findlay in 19-10 Loss

FINDLAY, Ohio - The Davenport women's lacrosse team competed in its final game before its GLIAC opener, falling to Findlay 19-10 Tuesday afternoon at the Russ & Peg Armstrong Complex.

Blakely Malpass once again led the Panthers (1-8, 0-0 GLIAC) offense, scoring four goals on 10 shots to go along with a pair of ground balls and draw controls. Freshman Kylie Pettus recorded her first hat trick in her collegiate career with three goals, as well as a team-high five draw controls. Gabby Basha chipped in with two goals, while Jenna Gillis scored one goal and dished out one assist.

Defensively, Maisy Latus played all 60 minutes in goal as she racked up 13 saves on the afternoon.

Pettus was the first Panther to find the back of the net as she scored in the final minute of the first quarter to trim the early deficit to three.

With 11:33 remaining in the half,  Basha scored her first career collegiate goal, cutting the Oilers (3-6, 0-0 G-MAC) lead to 4-2. Davenport scored two more times before the end of the half but was unable to contain the Findlay offense as they trailed 12-4 going into the break.

Just 57 seconds into the second half, Malpass scored her second goal of the game as the Panthers struck first out of the break. Davenports' best stretch came in the fourth, as the two teams tied 2-2 in the final quarter. Malpass scored both goals for the Panthers over the final 15 minutes of play.

Looking ahead, the Panthers will now travel to Minnesota for their GLIAC opener against Concordia-St. Paul at 1 p.m.
