DU takes down Carnegie Mellon to conclude spring trip

ORLANDO, Fla. - Men's tennis capped their spring break trip at the USTA National Campus with a win this Friday afternoon. The Panthers triumphed against NCAA DIII 23rd-ranked Carnegie Mellon 6-3 in today's contest.

The Panthers yet again proved their dominance in doubles, as they swept all the doubles matches. The men followed Division III rules today so each point counts as opposed to earning the point by winning two of three. For three doubles, Daniil Khitrou and Subash Paramasivam got a point for the Panthers with a 8-6 win over Raahil Doshi and Jaden D'Abreo. Carlos Henriquez and Simone Pacciolla played two doubles and fought hard for an 8-5 win over Nicholas Wernink and Matthew Poh. Jan Stolin and Joel Mast were left at one doubles with a convincing 8-6 victory over Akshay Joshi and Derek Wong.

The Panthers did their research, knowing that CMU was a strong singles team. Mast at three singles gave the Panthers their fourth point. Down 3-5 in the first set, he won 10 games in a row to earn a 7-5, 6-0 win over D'Abreo. Brenes at five singles had a tough opponent given their style of play, dropping the match 6-3, 6-0 to Chaitanya Irkar. Khitrou in at four singles played well but was not even enough losing 6-3, 6-4 to Jonathan Nottingham. Paramasivam at one singles had a tricky opponent who had a full list of shots available, dropping the match 6-2, 7-5. Stolin at two singles put up a tremendous effort to defeat Doshi 7-6 (7-1), 7-5. Pacciolla was inserted into singles for the first time this spring and won the instant classic in a three-set match (3-6. 7-6 (7-5), 7-5) over Sebastien Lhuillier.
