BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport men's tennis team ran into a hot No. 17 Ferris State team on Saturday in a 7-0 loss to the Bulldogs. The Panthers were shut out for just the second time this season and the Bulldogs meanwhile won for the fifth time in a row. FSU is now 11-3 overall and 3-0 in the GLIAC, while DU is now 11-9 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
The contest began with three doubles matches and the Panthers were able to take a win at two doubles.
Simone Pacciolla and
Carlos Henriquez teamed up for a 7-5 win over Alessandro Santangelo and Esunge Ndumbe. The other two matches ended 6-3 in favor of Ferris State.
Jan Koupil was able to defeat
Subash Paramasivam at one singles by scores of 6-1, 6-4. The Bulldogs earned their third point at four singles.
Daniil Khitrou battled with Yannic Mader and the match shifted to Mader early and Khitrou could not recover falling 6-0, 6-4.
The clinching point came at two singles in a showdown between
Jan Stolin and Erik Kovacs. Stolin had his 14-match win streak in singles snapped in straight sets by scores of 7-5, 6-2. It was just his third singles loss of the season (21-3). The most competitive singles was at the six-spot between Pacciolla and Kacper Pasielak. Pasielak won the first set 7-5 and then Pacciolla forced a third set at 6-2. The super tiebreaker would go 10-6 in favor of Pasielak.
