GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The men's tennis team was in action Friday afternoon at the Grand Rapids Racquet and Fitness Club. The Panthers took a break from their busy conference schedule to compete against Indiana Tech and captured a 7-0 victory over the Warriors.
The Panthers swept the doubles to gain momentum heading into singles. Jan Stolin and Joel Mast played one doubles, as they quickly sprinted to a 6-2 victory over Phil Labbe and Tyler Sinclair. Carlos Henriquez and Simone Pacciolla earned a convincing 6-3 win at two doubles over Juan Avellaneda and Michel Zobel. For three doubles, Daniil Khitrou and Subash Paramasivam struggled initially dropping their first two service games, but managed to gut out a 6-4 win over Jorge Rodriguez and Anastasis Lavdas to complete the doubles sweep.
The Panthers continued their dominance into singles, winning all six singles matches. Mast at three singles earned a confidence win claiming the straight sets win over Sinclair (6-4, 6-4). Paramasivam played one singles, dropping the first three games in the opening set to come back to claim it 6-4 and used the momentum to cruise 6-2 in the second set over Kayra Kargin. Stolin competed at two singles and had some trouble reaching the finish line as he dropped the second set 6-3 but managed to find his way 6-3, 3-6, 13-11 over Zobel. The win marks a new school record for most singles wins in a single season at 22 victories. Davenport also earned three more singles wins at four, five, and six singles to conclude the match sweep.
