Lakers too much for the Panthers handing them their first GLIAC loss

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The men's tennis team was back at Grand Rapids Racquet and Fitness Club for Friday's contest against conference foe Grand Valley State. The Panthers kept the match tight initially before the Lakers pulled away with the 5-2 win handing DU their first conference loss of the season (2-1). The Panthers lost the doubles point. Daniil Khitrou and Subash Paramasivam played three doubles and they were outplayed by Ignasi Garros and Martin Matov (6-2). Jan Stolin and Joel Mast at one doubles, could not keep up as Unai Gonzalez and Sean Miller earned the 6-4 win. Carlos Henriquez and Simone Pacciolla at two doubles had to regroup after losing a 4-1 lead to claim the 6-4 win over Jack Dausman and Freddy Cossio.

Heading into singles, the Panthers quickly forgot about the missed opportunity in doubles. Beginning with two singles, Stolin picked up his 21st singles win of the season, to tie the single-season record at DU, with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Sebastian Arce. He also extended his singles win streak to 14 matches. Mast at three singles, picked up a grueling three-set victory over Miller for his 15th singles win this season (1-6, 6-3, 6-2). Khitrou at four singles also went the distance with Dausman, dropping the match (3-6, 6-3, 2-6). Paramasivam played one singles in another hotly-contested, three-setter and was defeated (5-7, 6-4, 6-0) by Gonzalez. Henriquez competed at five singles and it was a tough day at the office as he was overwhelmed by Cossio (6-1, 6-0).
