Panthers Drop Final Home Game of 2023 Season

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -  The Davenport women's lacrosse team fell 21-10 to Grand Valley State in its final home game of the 2023 season.

Kylie Pettus gave the Panthers (2-12, 0-4 GLIAC) the first lead of the game, as she found the back of the net 1:09 into the contest. However, the Lakers responded with three consecutive goals to gain a 3-1 advantage with 3:18 remaining in the first quarter of play.

Blakely Malpass evened things up at three apiece for DU to close out the first quarter, as she scored a pair of goals over a 2:12 span.

Grand Valley State took control of the match in the second quarter, as they scored eight unanswered over a span of 7:27. The Lakers' run was spurred behind six consecutive draw controls to start the quarter.

Gabby Basha sparked a 3-0 run late in the game for the Panthers to trim the deficit to nine with 12:16 remaining.

Malpass once again led Davenport with three goals and an assist in the loss. Pettus and Basha each found the back of the net twice, while Thadora Krueger scored her first goal of the season and added five draw controls. Jordon Highley and Mika Kulynych chipped in with one goal apiece.

Maisy Latus once again played all 60 minutes in goal, racking up nine saves on the evening for DU.

The Panthers will have a chance at redemption, as they are set for a rematch with the Lakers on Sunday in Allendale, Mich. at noon.
