Panthers Fall to No. 18 GVSU

ALLENDALE, Mich. -  For the second time this week, the Davenport women's lacrosse team took on crosstown rival No. 18 Grand Valley State University. The Panthers (2-13, 0-5 GLIAC) fell to the Lakers (11-4, 5-0 GLIAC) 14-5 on Sunday afternoon, surrendering 12 straight goals over a 27:40 span.

After a scoreless first 10 minutes of action, Theadora Krueger found Mika Kulynych, who netted the first goal of the game to give DU a 1-0 advantage down the stretch of the first quarter.

Facing a 12-1 deficit, Kulynych halted the Lakers' momentum as she scored with four seconds remaining in the third quarter. The freshman attack has been a key contributor for Davenport as of late, scoring at least one goal in four consecutive games.

The Panthers turned things around in the final quarter, outscoring the Lakers 3-2 as Blakely Malpass, Jordon Highley, and Gabby Basha all found the back of the net.

Krueger finished with a pair of caused turnovers and ground balls for Davenport, while Christine Steffes secured three ground balls. Maisy Latus racked up 13 saves in goal for DU.

Looking ahead, the Panthers will prepare for their final regular season game of the season, a rematch with Northern Michigan on Friday (April 21) at 5 p.m. in Marquette, Mich.
