Wildcats Push Past Panthers Behind Strong Second Half

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -  The Davenport women's lacrosse team fell 15-5 to Northern Michigan Sunday afternoon at the DU Turf Field.

Blakely Malpass lofted the ball over two defenders to find an open Jordan Highly, who found the back of the net to put the first goal on the board for the Panthers (1-10, 0-2 GLIAC) 9:08 into the contest.

Less than a minute into the second quarter, Malpass scored one of her own to trim the deficit to 3-2. Following a Gabby Basha goal with 3:29 remaining in the first half, the Wildcats (7-5, 2-12 GLIAC) took control of the game, scoring 10 consecutive goals to gain an 11-point lead with 6:40 left to play.

Basha scored a team-high two goals while adding one ground ball for Davenport. Kylie Pettus secured eight draw controls, caused one turnover, and found the back of the net once for DU. Maisy Latus racked up 12 saves, playing all 60 minutes in goal for the Panthers,

Davenport will have a rematch with Concordia-St. Paul on Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Grand Rapids, Mich. The Panthers lost in a heartbreaker to the Golden Bears (5-7, 1-2 GLIAC) earlier this season in a one-point loss after leading 9-2 in the first half.
