10-4 Good Buddy: Panthers hit the .500 mark in today's win over Parkside

DU improved to 14-6 in the GLIAC

CALEDONIA, Mich. - The Davenport baseball team got to the .500 mark (20-20) in a 10-4 win on Saturday against Parkside. The Panthers continue to swing the bats effectively and improved to 14-6 in the GLIAC.

The Panthers were able to score early and built a 6-0 lead after two innings. Khale Showers had a RBI double and Carter Troncin reached on an error to allow Showers to score in the first inning for a 2-0 lead. Carson Price continued the scoring in the second inning with a RBI double. Gaetano Vallone had a sacrifice fly to plate the fourth run. Showers was at it again with a single that scored two for the 6-0 lead.

Max Bruff tripled to center for two RBI as the Rangers got on the board in the third inning. Showers had another RBI with a sacrifice fly to center in the fourth inning to increase the lead to 7-2. Bruff had another big hit with a two-run homer to right center in the seventh inning for a 7-4 deficit.

Michael Tchavdarov started a three-run rally in the eighth for Davenport with a solo home run to right for a 8-4 lead. Showers collected his season-high fifth RBI of the game with a single to center and Troncin had a bunt RBI single to conclude the scoring at 10-4.

Vallone finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a double. Showers went 3-for-4 and also scored a run. Tchavdarov went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Isaac Van Dyke got the start and went two innings. Jared Schwartz tossed the next four innings and got the win (2-2). He allowed two hits and one earned run with three walks and five strikeouts. Jack Snow got one inning of work and allowed two runs. Spencer Vainavicz got some work in with two innings and struck out two in a scoreless outing.

The two teams will play one more game tomorrow at noon to conclude the weekend series.
