Panthers rally against Ferris, remain undefeated at home

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport women's soccer team finished the week undefeated after a 1-1 finish against Ferris State University to bring their season record to 4-0-1.

A demanding first half saw the Bulldogs send six shots on goal throughout the first 40 minutes, all of which were saved by Gabriana Bennecke. With just under four minutes remaining, Ferris' Haley Buckman would find another scoring opportunity and convert off an assist by Lindsay Cole, ending the half with a 0-1 score.

The Panthers didn't waiver as they matched the shot-on-goal attempts with three apiece throughout the second half, and as the game clock showed little time remaining, a corner kick attempt would allow for one last scoring opportunity.

Bianka Batagelj sent the corner across the box and a miraculous header from Arianna Diemer knotted up the scoreline (86') to record Diemer's first goal of the season and Batagelj's second assist thus far.

With the draw, the Panthers remain undefeated at home and are 1-0-1 in conference play as they prepare for a two-week stretch on the road.

DU's next matchup will be in Kenosha, Wisconsin against Parkside on Friday, Sept. 22 at 2:30 p.m. (1:30 CST).
