ADRIAN, Mich. - The Davenport men's tennis team made the trip to the southeast corner of Michigan on Tuesday for a clash against Adrian College (NCAA Division III). The Panthers improved to 2-0 as they breezed to an 8-0 win over the Bulldogs at the Craft Tennis Complex.
Playing under NCAA Division III rules, the doubles matches all were given a point instead of NCAA Division II where winning two of three would get one team point. The doubles matches also are played to the first to eight games.
Simone Pacciolla and
Joel Mast at No. 1 doubles got an 8-4 win over Kasper Olofsson and Brandon Falk. It was the first time that the two have been paired together.
Subash Paramasivam and
Jan Stolin at No. 2 doubles blanked Jackson Wilcox and Sean Ruhf, 8-0. The No. 3 doubles match between
Carlos Henriquez and
Jose Brenes of DU and Luca Coutinho and Darren Walter of Adrian went to the Panthers 8-2.
Mast at No. 1 singles did not finish his match after winning 6-1 in the first set and trailed 7-6 in the second set before rain stopped the match. Stolin at No. 2 singles won 6-2, 6-1 over Olofsson. Paramasivam at No. 3 singles defeated Sebastian Smith 6-1, 6-1. Henriquez at No. 4 singles won 6-1, 6-2 against Coutinho. Pacciolla at No. 5 singles picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ruhf. Finally, the No. 6 singles saw Brenes take a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Wilcox.
