ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Davenport men's tennis team competed in a series of matches on Friday against Ferris State and Grand Valley State. The West Michigan schools got together in a non-conference format featuring both singles and doubles. The players were separated into groups with
Joel Mast and
Jan Stolin in group one,
Subash Paramasivam and
Carlos Henriquez in group two,
Jose Brenes and
Marius Pion in group three and
Max Dion,
Vance Muenzer and
Reid Reimink in group four of singles.
In addition, Paramasivam and Stolin teamed up in group one doubles along with Henriquez and Brenes. Mast and Dion along with Muenzer and Reimink performed in group two.
Stolin was able to defeat Sean Miller of GVSU 7-6, 6-4 but fell 6-1, 2-0 against Denys Zamaraiev of the Lakers. Mast fell 6-4, 3-6, 16-14 in one of the longer matches you will ever see against Ben Lortie of Ferris State and also fell 6-4, 6-0 against Lucas Gonzalez of Grand Valley State.
Paramasivam did not get a singles win falling 6-0, 6-1 versus Jan Koupil of FSU, but rebounded with a 6-1, 7-6 win against Lawrence Ivanov of the Lakers. Henriquez lost dropped a pair of singles matches with scores of 6-1, 6-1 against Victor Lopes of GVSU and 6-2, 6-4 against Chimo Minguez of GVSU.
The Panthers fared better in doubles as Paramasivam and Stolin won 8-5 and 8-6 in the first group.Â
