Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The Davenport University men's soccer team finished their two-game road trip against No. 15 University of Illinois Springfield in a 2-2 draw, tallying their second draw of the season to mark their season record at 0-0-2.
Graduate midfielder Eoin Broughan was quick to swing momentum into the Panthers' favor just a few minutes into the start of the match, striking just past the seven minute mark to put DU up 1-0. With excitement still riding high, Broughan would once again secure an unassisted goal ('9) to add to the lead, 2-0.
This would ultimately be the second and final goal scored by the Panthers as just shy of 20 minutes went scoreless until UIS' Adrian Adames sent a shot into the goal ('29) off an assist by Max Tweddle to cut the deficit to just one, 2-1, to end the scoring in the first half.
The Prairie Stars struck again just under seven minutes into the second half ('51) with Adames striking for his second time in the match off another assist by Tweddle. The match saw more shot attempts from both sides of the pitch, but neither side was able to take advantage of their looks as it would boil down to a draw.
Broughan would be the only Panther to get a shot attempt off with four total as UIS tallied 16 shots overall (six on goal) - four of those shots saved by redshirt senior keeper Bobby Curran. A chippy match throughout would see seven yellow cards split between DU (three) and UIS (four).
With today's draw, this marks the first time since 2014 that the men's soccer program hasn't lost a match in their first two games of a new season - 2014 being the same year in which the team was crowned as the NAIA National Champions.
DU will host their first home match of the season this Thursday, Sept. 7 against Tiffin University with a 7 p.m. kickoff at Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex.
