Preview: Panthers at SVSU in a single match week

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Davenport men's soccer will wrap up their three-match road trip in University Center this weekend after splitting their last two matches 1-1 against Northern Michigan and St. Cloud State.

The Panthers were just minutes away from recording their third undefeated match of the year in the Northern match until a heartbreaking goal by the Wildcats inside of the 86th minute resulted in the team's second loss of the season, 0-1.

DU was determined to bounce back against St. Cloud and did just that, sending two goals into the net in the first 45 minutes of the match: Austin Hall (34') assisted by Cam Power, Eoin Broughan (44') assisted by Hall. Although the Huskies would respond with a goal of their own, the Panthers maintained their one-goal lead throughout and tallied their second victory of the season to improve their season record to 2-2-2 overall and standing at No. 2 in the GLIAC leaderboards.

Goalkeeper Bobby Curran returned to the box after a two-match absence, proving effective throughout the 180 minutes played with five saves total - 18 total this season.

The single matchup against Saginaw Valley State University for week four will be the 20th matchup in series history.

SVSU Matchup
The Cardinals remain at the top of the GLIAC standings with a 1-0-1 conference record and an overall season record of 3-2-1. Following a scoreless draw against St. Cloud and a 1-0 victory over Northern, SVSU's Benjamin Adamson was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week.

Jonathan Monney leads the Cardinals in goals scored with four total with a .714 shot-on-goal percentage, followed by Jaden Cameron's two goals on the year. Goalkeeper Jack Simms has seen the most action inside the nets with 13 saves (.765 save percentage) and four goals against in four starts.

Historically the Cardinals have proved to be a difficult matchup for DU as the all-time record stands at 4-13-2.
