Preview: Panthers Prep for Home Opening Weekend

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - After playing its first 10 matches on the road, the Davenport University women's volleyball team is slated for its home-opening weekend as they continue conference play. The Panthers (4-6, 1-1 GLIAC) will host Lake Superior State on Friday (6 p.m.) followed by No. 22 Ferris State on Saturday (5 p.m.) at the DU Student Center. 

Last time out, DU swept Michigan Tech 3-0 (-21, -24, -21) on their home court. It was the first time in school history the Panthers have swept the Huskies on their home court. 

Player Notes
Stephanie Kalinowski
  • Off the heels of back-to-back GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week selections.
  • She is the second Panther to earn consecutive Player of the Week honors since joining the GLIAC ahead of the 2017 season.
  • Leads the conference in digs (164) and is third in digs per set (4.21).
  • Registered a career-high 32 digs against Northern Michigan last Friday (Sept. 15).

Lindsay Taylor
  • Leads the Panthers in kills (100), kills per set (2.56), and points (122.5).
  • Also has made a key impact defensively, as she is second on the team in digs (106).
  • Has had four double-doubles this season (kills and digs).

Sydney Swan
  • Has finished with double-digit kills in five of 10 matches.
  • Second on the team in kills (81).
  • In the sweep over MTU (Sept. 16), she led the team with 10 kills, a .308 hitting percentage, and five digs.

Emmy Webb
  • Leads the team in hitting percentage .218 (min. 50 attempts).
  • Second on the team in blocks (19).

About the Bulldogs:
  • The defending GLIAC champions currently sit at No. 22 in the nation with all three losses coming to teams ranked inside the AVCA top 25. 
  • FSU lost to No. 2 Concordia-St. Paul, 3-1 in Denver, Co. 
  • Ferris State opened GLIAC play with wins over Wayne State and Parkside last week and will travel to Saginaw Valley State before its matchup with the Panthers.
