Taylor Records Season-High 22 Kills Against No. 22 Ferris State in Five-Set Thriller

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Lindsay Taylor recorded her fifth double-double of the season, finishing with a season-high 22 kills and 14 digs as the Davenport University women's volleyball team fell to No. 22 Ferris State In five sets on Saturday evening at the DU Student Center.

Stephanie Kalinowski continues her impressive graduate campaign for the Panthers (5-7, 2-2 GLIAC) as she once again eclipsed her previous career-high in digs, recording 37 in the loss. The South Lyon, Mich. native's previous career-high came just last weekend, as she registered 32 digs at Northern Michigan (Sept. 15).

Davenport took the first set in a nail-biting 25-23 victory to establish momentum early and a 1-0 lead in the match. Emmy Webb recorded her first kill early into the set off an assist from Nicole Odeen, giving the Panthers a 3-0 lead to start the set. The remainder of the set was neck-and-neck, with the largest lead being four which was a 7-3 lead held by Davenport. Trailing 23-22, the Panthers finished the set the same way they started, a 3-0 rally to clinch. Lexie Beeke set up Sydney Swan, who delivered the final dagger, giving DU the early advantage.

A nine-point deficit (15-6) was too much for the Panthers to overcome in the second set, despite pulling back within three down the stretch (20-17). The Bulldogs (9-3, 4-0 GLIAC) took the set 25-20 and tied the match at one set apiece.

With both teams trying to gain an advantage in the match, the third set may have been the most exciting one the Panthers have been a part of this season. The two squads continued to exchange blows past 25 points, as neither team could gain the two-point lead to win the set. With the match tied 29-29, Taylor had an attack attempt which deflected off a Bulldog and shot back towards her. Taylor immediately spiked the ball once again, this time registering the kill and giving DU a 30-29 advantage. After a nearly 10-minute intermission due to referees discussing a controversial call, Lilly LaFleur and Emma Turnquist registered back-to-back kills, giving Davenport a 33-31 victory in the third set.

Ferris State recovered in the fourth and fifth sets, recovering from the 2-1 deceit and defeating Davenport in a 3-2 thriller.

Webb finished the match with 11 kills and hitting .250 for the Panthers. Sydney Swan eclipsed double-digit kills once again, tallying 10 while adding six digs for DU. Odeen and Beeke each finished with a team-high 24 assists for Davenport.
