Panthers Swept by Lakers in Crosstown Showdown

Box Score ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Davenport University volleyball team traveled across town to take on rival Grand Valley State University on Tuesday evening. The Panthers (5-8, 2-3 GLIAC) were swept by the Lakers (10-1, 4-1 GLIAC), falling 14-25, 18-25, and 9-25.

The Panthers best run of the match came in the first set, going on a 6-1 rally late to trim the lead to seven (19-12). However, it was too late, as GVSU finished the first set on a 6-2 rally of their own to gain the 1-0 advantage.

Davenport got off to a better start in the second set, leading Grand Valley State 7-6 in the beginning stages. The Lakers responded and outscored the Panthers 19-11 to close out the second set.

Lindsay Taylor led the Panthers offense, finishing with a team-high seven kills, one block, and nine digs. Emma Turnquist registered four kills, while Sydney Swan chipped in with three. Nicole Odeen recorded a team-high 10 assists in the loss for DU. Defensively, Stephanie Kalinowski tallied 10 digs for the Panthers.

The Panthers will return home for a pair of home games this weekend. Davenport will host Wayne State on Friday (Sept. 29) at 6 p.m. and Saginaw Valley State on Saturday (Sept. 30) at 5 p.m. in Grand Rapids, Mich. at the DU Student Center.
