Preview: Conference action resumes with Panthers back on home pitch

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University men's soccer team is back home following their single match week against Saginaw Valley State (0-0 draw) last week to host a pair of top Midwest Regional opponents.

Through seven matches the Panthers are 2-2-3 for the season (1-1-1 in GLIAC) and have split their only two home appearances (1-1) thus far. Eoin Broughan and Vitalis Takawira Jr remain as the team's top goal scorers with three apiece (T-fourth in GLIAC) with six points each to go along with it. In his five matches played, Bobby Curran has posted a .778 save percentage (21 saves total) with a 1.20 goals against average - placing him at fourth overall in the GLIAC in both categories.

With Wisconsin-Parkside (No. 7) and Purdue Northwest (No. 8) in the top 10 of the United Soccer Coaches Midwest Regional Poll, DU will be tested while defending their home pitch this weekend.

PNW Matchup
The Pride sits at No. 3 in the GLIAC with a 1-1-1 record (4-1-3 overall), although the team has posted solid results across the board. Hugo Lorenzo leads the conference in goals (seven) and points (15) as he was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for week three after a performance consisting of a game-winning goal against Saint Xavier and a goal against Parkside.

Eligh Williams leads the goalkeeper boards with the lowest goals-against average (0.57) and the highest save percentage (.862) with 25 saves and just four goals allowed. Jacob Battista and Xavier Potts have been the only other goal scorers this year with three and one apiece, as Alex Garcia leads the team in assists thus far (two total).

DU will look to extend their winning streak against PNW to four straight as their historical record against the opponent stands at 5-4.

Parkside Matchup
GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week (week one) Alejandro Martinez leads the team with four goals (third in GLIAC) as Ed Heredia victoria is first overall in the conference for assists with four total. The team sits at No. 1 in the GLIAC standings (2-0-1) although Daniyal Rana has the second-most goals allowed (10) and has the second-lowest save percentage at .677 overall in all seven matches played for the Rangers.

Another historically tougher matchup for DU has produced an overall record of 4-7-1, although the team was able to snap their four-match losing streak last season in a 3-0 shutout in the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals to knock out the No. 15 nationally ranked team at the time.
