Panthers lose 2-0 shutout at home

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A tough outing in their first match at home after two weeks on the road saw the Davenport University men's soccer team lose 2-0 against Purdue Northwest.

The match appeared as though both sides would go into the halftime break without being able to put a shot into the goal. However, the Pride found an opening on a breakaway with Jacob Battista capitalizing on his shot attempt (assisted by Hugo Lorenzo), putting PNW up 1-0 just a few seconds past the 43rd minute.

A chaotic second half ensued with goalkeeper Bobby Curran receiving a red card, ejecting him for the remainder of the match inside of the 68th minute - Tommy Farrell subbing in to replace Curran for Farrell's third appearance this year. Minutes later, Lorenzo sealed the deal for PNW by sending a second shot into the net to make the match 2-0 off an assist from Carson Schrader. The Panthers weren't to respond as they were limited to just three shot attempts throughout the second half, nine total for the match.

DU is now 2-3-3 overall and 1-2-1 in GLIAC play with their next match at home against Wisconsin-Parkside on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 2 p.m.
