Late surge by Panthers keeps Women's Soccer undefeated

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University women's soccer team has extended their winning streak to two wins after a 2-0 victory against Truman State University.

DU couldn't manage to capitalize on what appeared to be potential scoring looks in the first half, but even so, the team managed to get off four of their 17 total shot attempts in 45 minutes of play. The Panther defense would only allow one shot attempt from the Bulldogs throughout the entire match, with that shot coming in the first nine minutes of the match as it sailed out right of the goal. Both teams would go into halftime with hopes to vamp up their offensive attack - and that's exactly what DU managed to do.

In just the first nine minutes of the second half, junior forward Haley Diekevers sent two shots that both missed out to the left of the goal. More aggressive shot attempts from junior midfielder Julia Tamasy, Diekevers, sophomore defender Arianna Diemer, and sophomore forward Ainsley Oliver would finally produce results. Junior midfielder Gabby Scholten sent a ball to Diekevers inside the box and the shot found the back of the net to put the Panthers up, 1-0, inside of the 70th minute.

Oliver would have another scoring chance, although this time being successful, a header from outside of the box bent down into the lower left of the net and put DU up two goals to none (79') and ultimately kept DU's undefeated season alive.

The Panthers will be back at home to defend their 2-0 record this Thursday, Sept. 7 as they host Tiffin University with kickoff at 4 p.m. at Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex.
