Lopez nets fifth goal this year, leads DU to draw against NMU

CALEDONIA, Mich. - Easton Lopez logged his fifth goal of 2024 to help Davenport University men's soccer walk away with an undefeated result (1-1) against Northern Michigan, opening the season series 0-0-1 against the Wildcats.

The teams were nearly tied for shot attempts through the first 45 minutes of action, with NMU taking a slight five-to-four edge over DU. Although the Panthers were the only side to record an attempt on target after Isiah Meyers' strike (38') was saved by Nils Cedergren.

After three shot attempts (all off target) by DU through the first 17 minutes of the second half, an opportunity surfaced a few minutes later after a deflected ball found the toe of Lopez and the freshman midfielder gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Before the excitement could settle, the Wildcats responded with a goal of their own (67') essentially 60 seconds later as the score would result in the equalizer for a draw.

Six corner-kick attempts and 10 total shots for each side highlighted the closely contested match, as Beau Hudd earned his eighth collegiate start and made a match-high three saves for DU.

The Panthers welcome No. 13 St. Cloud State on Sunday, Oct. 13, for an 11 a.m. kickoff at Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex.
