Panthers tie with SVSU in first meeting this season

CALEDONIA, Mich. - Davenport University women's soccer (3-3-4, 1-2-3 GLIAC) ended in a 1-1 draw at home against Saginaw Valley State in the first meeting this year.

It was a nearly even contest regarding scoring opportunities, as the Cardinals' five shots on goal were just short of the Panthers' total seven attempts on target. However, six saves by SVSU were the difference maker for DU walking away with their fourth win this year, with two other shot attempts just short of a goal after being denied by the post.

Seconds past the 15th minute, a deep strike by Lauryn Fracassi miraculously went into the top right corner to give the opponent a 1-0 edge at halftime after SVSU stopped three shots on target by the Panthers. As the game clock neared the 70th minute, Gabby Scholten waited patiently to send a cross into the box to set up Claire Breault, who flicked a shot into the upper left corner for the equalizer - marking her first goal as a Panther.

Next, DU will host Roosevelt University on Sunday, Oct. 13, for the first-ever matchup between the programs.
