Diekevers moves up in all-time rankings in win over Roosevelt

CALEDONIA, Mich. - Haley Diekevers logged a match-high two goals to lead Davenport University women's soccer (4-3-4, 2-2-3 GLIAC) to a 3-1 victory over the Roosevelt Lakers in the first-ever matchup against the opponent.

The senior forward's two scores moved her up the all-time leaderboards to No. 6 for total goals (24). Nadia Buist recorded her first-ever collegiate goal and Elizabeth Wolter made three saves to guarantee the Panthers' fourth win of 2024.

Still searching for its first win this year, Roosevelt (0-6-4, 0-5-2 GLIAC) was outpaced in shot total with DU tallying 18 (nine on goal) compared to the opponent's 10 total (four on target). The Panthers held the opponent to three shots in the first 45 as their offensive attack kept the Laker defense busy, totaling nine attempts with three on the mark. With that, neither team could manage a lead before going into halftime.

DU made the necessary adjustments at the break as Diekevers didn't waste time sending in her first score between the 46th and 47th minutes. A handful of foiled offensive attacks later, a chaotic situation in the box resulted in Diekevers flicking in her second score of the match (50'), 2-0. Buist added to the offensive onslaught by tallying her first career goal (58') ahead of the Lakers' first and only goal of the contest (77').

The homestand continues for DU next weekend for two contests at home against Michigan Tech (Oct. 18) and Northern Michigan (Oct. 20), the latter being the Panthers' Senior Day celebration.
